Just a few days after the official tests, dominated by BMW, and following recent publication of the official entry list, we learn that the 2021 Le Mans 24 Hours will no longer take place over the weekend of 17-18 April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This has been confirmed by promoter Eurosport Events, the FIM and the French Motorcycling Federation, as well as the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, who have opted to cancel the event and move it to a time still to be confirmed. Further updates should arrive in the next ten days.

In the words of the organisers

Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, has expressed his disappointment: “It was a difficult decision, but unfortunately, owing to the pandemic, we cannot guarantee our organisational standards, especially from a medical standpoint. We’ll do our best to find a new date for the 44th Le Mans 24 Hours”.

Of the same opinion is François Ribeiro, head of Eurosport Events: "The safety of the riders is a factor that we cannot overlook. We will now work in close contact with the other organisational bodies to find a new date. Our goal will be to reach a conclusion as soon as possible".
