The Aprilia RS660 has made a real impression on both the public and the industry, particularly in the US where the technical director of MotoAmerica, Tige Daane, is studying the bike’s technical characteristics to see whether to grant the homologation it would require to compete in the Twins Cup.

Daane wanted to look at the characteristics of the RS660 for himself and so paid a visit to the Robem Engineering workshop last weekend.

On the test bench

During his visit, two Aprilia RS660 bikes were tested on the bench alongside Jackson Blackmon’s Suzuki SV650 and Darren James’ Yamaha FZ-07/MT-07. The RS660 was also tested with both a standard exhaust and an aftermarket system.

And things are going well. “We are already in the process of approving the Aprilia RS660", commented Daane. “This test serves to confirm the bike's declared power and torque values. Being here allows me to see it all for myself. It’s not that I don’t trust the information supplied by Aprilia and other sources, I’m just doing my due diligence", explained the technical director.

The technical controls to receive homologation are inevitable, given that this is a new model that is yet to take to the track. The new Aprilia was only ridden for the first time in October in fact, when Pikes Peak winner Rennie Scaysbrook took it out on the roads of California’s West Coast before also riding it at the legendary Laguna Seca circuit.
